On Reading & Writing-What Do You Enjoy?

Day 1
You can't please everyone.

It's not an under or overstatement but means exactly what the words imply. I currently have 2 reviews on my novel, Heart in the HIGHLANDS, on Amazon and completely understand both comments. We’re all entitled to our opinions, and this blog is about not only my opinion, but yours.

One review of my book is highly favorable and the other is middle-of-the-road.The reason? It’s all about things people like and dislike. Personally I enjoy various genres and writing styles, and the written word is more comfortable to me than the spoken word. For my tastes, most people talk too much and say very little worth hearing in the process.

So while conversation is part of being human and even necessary, it’s not my favorite pastime. I’d much rather curl up with a good book and lose myself in a make-believe world filled with adventure, romance, and paragraph upon paragraph of descriptive elements that tell a tale and paint a picture I’ll never forget.

I want to read about the stunning countryside or the exquisite pearl buttons on the bodice of a Regency evening gown. You get the picture.

So the first thing that I particularly enjoy are descriptive elements in stories. This can make a book long, even boring, if you’re not a genuine fan of the written word.

Thank you for your support!

Over Thanksgiving weekend I did my first book promo on Amazon. It was a great success with over 2000 downloads. Whether you downloaded Heart in the Highlands or Synergy of Blood: Reunion, I just want to say "Thank you!". Your support means everything to me as an author and I hope you enjoy your selection(s). When you're finished reading, please be sure to write an Amazon Review for others to read.

I plan to publish volume 3 of Heart in the Highlands between Valentine's Day and Mother's Day 2013. It's all going to depend on whether or not I'm in Central Africa doing humanitarian mission work or at home madly writing and editing since I have several projects that I'm eager to finish.
If you'd like to know more about our work in Burundi, visit my Cause on Facebook: Feed the Children of Burundi, Central Africa

Also, to receive Updates on my work and opportunities for more Free Reads, post a Comment here or on my Facebook page. I'd love to hear from you!

In case you missed my promo, here are the links. If you're an Amazon Prime member, you can download these ebooks Free right now.

About Heart in the HIGHLANDS:
As Scotland recovers from the Jacobite uprising of 1745, Kennis McCallum desperately searches for her missing brother.
When Rob is shipped off to the Americas to be an indentured servant, Kennis fears that she will never see him alive again. Guided by her hopes and dreams, she unexpectedly finds herself embroiled in a plot to steal her inheritance—not foreseeing that a kinsman of her sworn Campbell enemy, the darkly handsome and autocratic Alistair MacDougall will hinder her every step.
Alistair MacDougall is on a Mission to recover Scotland’s betrayed Jacobites. Throughout his mission, Alistair is certain to find the bonnie McCallum lass wherever trouble abounds. Drawn to her despite evidence that she has betrayed her family, he offers his protection—and his passion. Too late, he discovers that she has deep feelings for his old nemesis and her distant kinsman, Eavan Malcolmson.
Only Alistair can protect her from Eavan’s devious plot and Kennis must trust him to help her find Rob. Together, Alistair and Kennis risk all to prove that Highland Dreams do come true, sealing a bond of love forged by Providence…

Write What You LOVE…

After years of reading and writing, experimenting with different styles and voice, I always return to the best advice that I have ever received.

Write What YOU Love

It will give you personal satisfaction and hours of pleasure instead of becoming work or even a drudgery. If you enjoy a certain style or subject, I guarantee that others do too. I’m not certain of the statistic today but it used to be 5000 to 1, meaning that if you like it, so do another 4999. And if the statistic holds true, then do the math. That’s a lot of people! So be encouraged, do what you do best and when you feel inspired or ready, explore something new.

In the meantime, Write What You Love today and enjoy the pursuit.
